Bride Valley Archers




James was 1st in U/15 Barebow at the British Field Archery Championships at Overton on May 26/27. Steve, John and Paul also competed. Two very challenging courses!

6 club members competed at the Ballands Field Tournament on May 12/13.

Successful day at the Osprey Triple (Target, Field and Clout) on Sunday April 15. Everyone shot well in difficult conditions. Well done to juniors River, Lily, Ruby, James, George and Seniors Steve, Codi, John and Paul.

Pentref Field Shoot in Wales cancelled due to the weather. Steve, Paul and Codi had entered. 

Good results in the Archery GB November Challenge. First place for Alexandra (U/14 Barebow) and second place for Reuben S (U/18 Longbow).

James was first in U/14 Barebow at the GWAS Indoor Championships at Weston-Super-Mare on February 18.

A good day at the Bournemouth Indoor Tournament on Sunday January 21. First places for Lily, Ruby PM, James and Archie in their Junior events. Steve and Paul claimed the Barebow Team Competition. 2nd place for Paul in Senior Barebow, personal bests for Steve and John.

River and Alexandra won their sections in Archery GB's Summer Metrics Postal competition.


James was 2nd in U/14 Barebow at the National Junior Championships at Stoneleigh on December 2.

Schools Match on Thursday November 30th. Powerstock beat Thorner's in an indoor match at Litton Hall. Great to see archers aged 7-9 performing so well.

Juniors shooting scores for the November Challenge (36 arrows at 20 yards, 60cm face).

Codi was second placed AFB at the GWAS Regional Field Championships at Exmouth on October 7/8.

River won the U/12 girl's Barebow at the GWAS Junior Championships on September 2 at Wareham, with 998 points (also a JMB score). Alexandra won the U/14 girl's Barebow with 947 points (a JMB score) in her first ever competition. Great performances against the top juniors from Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

NEW CLOUT RANGE READY! A full length range is now available for all competition distances from 80 to 180 yards.


Paul and Steve competed at the English Field Archery Championships at Overton in Hampshire on 8/9 July. A very challenging course and hot conditions still saw both set personal best scores, including 2 County records.

Good day at the Lytchett Owl Tournament on June 25, with 5 adults and 2 Juniors shooting. River won the U/12 Barebow and Junior Supreme Archer trophies. Reuben S was 2nd in U/16 Longbow and Paul won the Senior Barebow.

Great results at the Osprey Triple on April 23. First places for Lily, Ruby S, Ruby PM, George, Luc, Reuben and Paul. Second place for River, but she set a new County record for the 50m distance!

Paul placed 5th and Steve 23rd in the Barebow Section at a Selection Shoot at Pentref on April 8/9 for the British 3D Field Team for the World Championships in France. A great weekend.

Great course (steepest in Britain) and great weather for the Wrexham Field Tournament on March 25/26. Paul finished 5th in the Barebow Class.

Mud, glorious mud! Steve and Paul competed at the Pentref Field Tournament in Wales on March 4/5. A great course, but recent heavy rain made it very challenging.


Successful Club Target Day. Lots of Portsmouth round scores for the January Challenge (Archery GB Postal Competition). Paul placed 3rd in Men's Barebow.

Good results at the Bournemouth Indoor Tournament. Trophies for Lily, Ruby and George and medals for River and Issy. Steve and Paul won the Barebow Team event. Luke shot well in his first senior competition.


 Izzy, Reuben K, Steve and Paul competed in the British Indoor Barebow Championships on Sunday November 27 at Wincanton (one of 6 venues throughout Britain). Izzy 6th in U/12 girls, Reuben 4th U/16 boys, Paul 12th and Steve 91st Senior Men.

5 archers competed at the Bowmen of Lytchett Clout Tournament on October 9. Izzy won U/12 Recurve, with Ruby S second in U/14 Barebow, Reuben S second in U/16 Longbow and Paul third in Senior Barebow. Steve also shot well in the Senior Barebow.

Lucy and Reuben S represented Dorset And Wilts in the Regional Inter-Counties Tournament in Cheltenham on September 3.

Lucy competed at the Junior National Championships at Lilleshall on July 2/3, placing 2nd in the Metric tournament and 4th in the Imperial tournament. A great performance in her first competitive season.

Lucy and Ruby S competed at the Lytchett 1440 Tournament on May 22. Lucy achieved a Junior Master Bowman score for the Metric 5 round.

Well done to Lucy, Elliott, Ruby, Luke and Reuben S who all won their events at the Osprey Triple on April 24. Lucy set new County U/12 records for 30m distance and 80 yards Clout and Reuben new County U/16 records for 120 yards Clout and 50m distance. 

We have a link with Enniscorthy Archers in Ireland. They have a lot of juniors and we are planning a postal match with them. Further details to follow.

Portesham beat Thorner's in their Year 3/4 match at Litton on March 8. Florie and Fabian claimed 7 out of 7 wins in the head to heads and Jess the overall highest score.

West Dorset Primary Schools Championship in progress. Scores recorded by juniors (years 3-6) at the club and by those in participating schools. 45 archers have recorded scores as of March 8.

Ruby PM won the U/14 Barebow section at the Bournemouth Indoor Tournament on Sunday January 17, scoring 314 for a Portsmouth round. 

An Inter School Match was held at Litton Hall on Thursday November 14. A very close Year 5/6 match saw Powerstock beat Thorner's by 33.5 to 30.5.

Well done to club members at the GWAS Junior Championships. Alice, Jess, Ruby S, Reuben S and Reuben K were selected for the Dorset and Wilts Team. Reuben S won the U/14 Longbow event, Alice was second in the U/18 compound and Ruby PM also shot well in her first competition. Great to see our archers shooting successfully in all bowstyles (Recurve, Compound, Barebow and Longbow)

Reuben had a successful time at Archery GB's Youth Festival at Lilleshall National sports Centre. His team reached the final of the Cadet Team Competition, where they narrowly lost to the three archers who shot for Britain at the World Junior Championships.

Well done to Reuben S and Luke who competed successfully at the Lytchett Blue Lion on June 28.

UK JUNIOR FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS at Pentref (South Wales) on July 18/19. A great course and a good event for any of our keen Field Archers.    

Summer Metrics- a National Postal competition run by Archery GB, with scores to be shot any time in July or August. A chance to see how you compare to junior archers throughout the country.

Reuben K competed in Stages 1 and 2 of the National Series at Oxford on May 16/17. He shot a 70m qualifying round both days, followed by knockout head to head matches. On Saturday he won his first match, before meeting George Harding, a National team member, shooting well but losing 6-0. On Sunday he set a new pb of 536 for the 70m round and won three head to head matches, before meeting George Harding again in the last 16, this time managing to tie one set in a 7-1 defeat. As the youngest archer in the field and with all Britain's top archers competing it was a great experience.  

Well done to Ruby S and Reuben S who shot well in Target, Field and Clout at the Osprey Triple on April 26, to win their sections. They both set new County records for the clout event.

Reuben K shot well at the selection shoot for the England Cadet team for the Youth Commonwealth Games (in Samoa) at Lilleshall on April 25, placing 5th.

Reuben set a new County Field record for 24 Marked (Blue Pegs) at Mere Archers Field Shoot on Sunday April 12.

NOVEMBER CHALLENGE- Well done to Reuben S who placed 3rd in U/14 Longbow in this national postal competition.

INTER-SCHOOL ARCHERY MATCHES. Thorner's (Litton Cheney) hosted Portesham for an indoor archery contest. Year 5 and 6 teams met on Monday February 2 with Thorner's eventually winning by 18.5 points to 11.5 points after a series of individual head to head matches. Jacob was the top individual with 5 wins out of 5. The Year 3 and 4 teams had their contest on Monday February 9. A very high standard match resulted in a narrow 22 points to 20 points win for Portesham, with Fabian the top individual.


Reuben placed 4th in U/14 Recurve at the Junior National Indoor Championships at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry on December 6th. He scored 549 for the Portsmouth round, a new County record and only 4 points behind the winner.

Reuben achieved 1st place in the U/14 Recurve section of the Summer Metrics, a national postal competition run by Archery GB.

Well done to Jenny who scored an excellent 382 for a WA 18m round at the British Barebow Indoor Championships on November 23.

It's November! Time to shoot a score for the November Challenge, Archery GB's national postal competition. 36 arrows at 20 yards on a 60cm face.

Well done to Alice, Daniel, Reuben S and Reuben K who helped Dorset and Wilts achieve 2nd place behind Gloucestershire, but ahead of Devon and Cornwall and Somerset in the GWAS Junior Inter-Counties at Williton on September 6. Reuben S (Longbow) and Reuben K (Recurve) set several County and Regional records in the process. 

Reuben K had successful results at both the National Series event at Exmouth and the Academies Cup at Lilleshall in August. 

Congratulations to William who won the U/15 Barebow title and overall barebow title at the UK Junior Field Championships at Kendal on July 19/20. Jenny also shot well as top scorer in the U/18 girls Barebow.

5 archers competed at the Bournemouth Blue Lion on July 20th. It was the first competition for Beth (aged 6) and she did brilliantly to finish 2nd in the U/10 Barebow. There were first places for Rosie, Fred, George and Reuben. Bride Valley (Rosie and George) won the Barebow Team competition.

Reuben won his section at the GWAS Junior Championships at Burnham-On-Sea on July 12th.

The club has been awarded £750 from the Archery GB 'Ontarget' club development programme. This will allow the purchase of additional bows, arrows, targets and other equipment to help the ongoing growth of the club.

Reuben and Daniel both shot well at the National Junior Championships at Lilleshall on July 5/6. 

Jenny and William won their sections at the Overton Field Tournament in Hampshire.

The club had a great day at the Lytchett Owl Tournament on June 29th. Well done to Imogen, Jess, Alice, Hannah, Rosie, Fred, George, Reuben S, Reuben K and Luke who all shot well and all won medals and some won very impressive trophies. County records were set by Luke, Alice, Reuben S and Reuben K. The Junior Knockout competition saw Alice and Reuben K in the final, with Alice winning the 1 arrow shoot off. Many thanks to the Bowmen of Lytchett for organising an excellent event. 

The July Nationals Postal Competition has now changed to Summer Metrics, with rounds to be shot during July and August. 36 arrows at each distance on a 80cm face, with the relevant distances as follows:

U/12 Girls 15/10m, U/14 Girls and U/12 Boys 20/10m, U/16 Girls and U/14 Boys 30/20m, U/18 Girls and U/16 Boys 40/30m


YOUR COUNTY NEEDS YOU! Dorset and Wilts require 8 Recurves, 3 Compounds, 2 Barebows and 2 Longbows for the GWAS Inter-Counties on September 6th, competing against Devon and Cornwall, Somerset and Gloucestershire. Several club archers have the potential to make the team, but will need to shoot one 12 dozen round to be considered. A good option is the GWAS Junior Championships at Burnham-On-Sea on July 12th. The full selection criteria for the County Junior Team has been updated and is on the DWAA website.

Reuben won the U/14 Boys Recurve at the Salisbury FITA on May 18th, setting a new Metric 3 County record and distance records for 30m and 20m.

Lots of parents and adults tried archery before the main club session on May 3rd and all proved very competent.


GWAS Postal League results: First places for Beth, Hannah, Jenny, Reuben S and Reuben K. Second places for  Ruby N, William S, Daniel, Henry and Rebecca. Third places for Lucy, Cosmo, Similce, Belle, Magnus, George, Alice H and Alice J. About 40 archers entered scores. Thanks again to Colin and Ann Holmes who ran the competition.

14 juniors aged 8-12 tried Archery sessions at Bridport Leisure Centre on April 14th and 15 younger archers (5-7) tried the 'Arrows' set the previous week.

A good day at the Osprey Triple on April 13th for Rosie, Fred, Luke, Daniel, George and Reuben who all won medals for their efforts in Target, Field and Clout.

Over 30 shooting on April 12th, with many trying Clout archery in the lower field.

Good attendance in the rain and fog on April 5th.


Good attendance on March 29th with many trying Clout for the first time and several also passing Red and Gold Feather awards. One archer has continued on the path to the dark side!

We have just ordered 110 more FITA proficiency badges as so many members are progressing through the Feather and Arrow awards!

 A record attendance at Club Training on Saturday March 8th, with a total of 41 juniors enjoying shooting in the spring sunshine. 35 archers attended on March 15th.

A good day at the Barnstaple Indoor Tournament on Sunday March 1st. Rosie set a new Junior Girls National Barebow record for the Vegas round! She becomes the eighth club member to set a National record. George and Reuben set new County records. Rosie, George and Reuben all won their sections of the afternoon FITA 18 round and Fred also shot well, claiming 2 third place medals.

Jenny won the Junior Girls Barebow title at the Dorset and Wilts Indoor Championships in Wiltshire (and with a new County record for a Double Worcester) also on March 1st.


Good results in the November Challenge (Archery GB Postal Competition). 1st place for Hannah in U/18 Longbow. 4th places for Rosie (U/12 Barebow), Reuben S (U/14 Longbow) and Ruby N (U/16 Barebow). 19 archers from the club entered the competition. Full results on the Archery GB website.

Still very competitive scores in the GWAS Postal League for clubs in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. 37 club archers have sent in at least one score. Beth, Hannah, Reuben S, Reuben K and Jenny are leading their sections. Full results on the GWAS website.

Successful archery taster sessions at Bridport Leisure Centre's half term activities, with 32 youngsters aged from 5-14 trying the sport.

Feb 15: 25 archers with some new members and four girls passing the Red Feather Award and Cosmo winning the best gold competition.

Reuben travelled to Telford on January 25th for the European Archery Festival, the third leg of the Indoor World Cup. With 900 archers from 41 countries it was the biggest Indoor event ever staged in Britain. He shot well, scoring 485 (personal best and new County record) to finish 40th in the Junior Men's event against archers aged up to 20.

A good day at the Bournemouth Indoor Tournament on January 19. Jenny won the Junior girls barebow, George won Junior boys Barebow, with William second and Reuben won Junior boys Recurve. Jenny and William teamed up to finish second in the Barebow Team Competition. Good reports in the Bridport News and Echo.

34 Archers (23 girls and 11 boys) shooting at Bridport Leisure Centre on Saturday January 18!

Around 25 archers at the first Club session of the year on a warm, sunny day in Litton.

The club has achieved 'Perfomance' Club status on the Archery GB Ontarget Club Development Programme. This makes us one of only three clubs in the country to have achieved both 'Young People' and 'Performance' specialities.

A great day at the Junior National indoor Championships at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on Saturday December 7th. All eight club archers shot well and enjoyed the experience of a big event and competing alongside Junior World Champions and Olympic archers. It was the first tournament for Rosie, Fred and Reuben S and they coped remarkably well to shoot so consistently. George was third in the U/14 Barebow section, only 4 points behind 2nd place. Others achieved 4th/5th/6th places, just outside the medals, so were very competitive against the best archers in the Country.   


Nov 24- Well done to our seven archers at the British Barebow Indoor Championships who shot at Wincanton, one of eight venues throughout Britain. In the U/12's Magnus was 5th and Daniel 6th. In U/14's George was 3rd, William 6th and Theo 9th. Belle was 4th in U/14's and Jenny 4th in U/16's.  

Nov 16- Successful AGM with volunteers for club posts and many committee members (Parents and Juniors). Good turnout for outdoor shooting and yet more people ordering new bows!

Lots of juniors successfully working on Red and Gold Feather FITA awards on November 9th. We have just ordered another 40 badges!

Great turnout at Bridport Leisure Centre on November 2nd. 31 Juniors on the shooting line- our largest number ever!


We have at least 13 members going to the Junior National Indoor Championships at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on December 7th.

The 'Have a Go' at the Big Green Apple Day was very wet and very cold! However, we have gained several potential new members who really enjoyed their archery experience. 

27 archers training on Saturday October 12th. Great to see more new potential members and keen juniors getting their own equipment.

The weekend of October 5/6 saw around 100 junior archers in Litton Cheney. 22 club members shot on Saturday and around 80 Scouts at the District Camp at Litton Lakes. 


Lots shooting the 15 target field course at Litton on September 14th. Some very interesting and challenging shots for archers aged 5-15. 3 deer, 3 snakes, 2 lizards, fish, bat, owl, toad, wolf, raven and bear.

Good turnout for the first session after the summer holidays with 21 shooting.


Reuben has been selected to attend the Southern Regional Academy set up by Archery GB at Hartpury College near Gloucester. He will have monthly training camps running from Friday evening to Sunday. 

William, Jenny and Reuben won their sections at the Fort Purbrook Field Tournament at Portsmouth. A great venue with the 24 target course wholly within a Victorian Naval Fort.


Back in Littlebredy wood for some field archery at last. 15 archers shooting lizards, crows, snakes, owls, wild boar and toads, until torrential rain put an end to the days play.

Great shooting from Magnus, Belle, George and Reuben at the Bournemouth Blue Lion- all winning trophies or medals. Belle scored 755 for her Short Junior Windsor, only 28 points off Jenny's National record and won the best Barebow Gold award! George shot well in the Short Windsor (a round above his age group) to set a new County record. Reuben scored 876 to set a new County Recurve record. We came third in the Recurve Team competition (with 3 of them shooting Barebow!) and would have won the Barebow Team trophy if we knew there was this award!

Well done to Reuben on achieving his Junior Master Bowman classification (2 scores achieved at the National Championships and the third at Exmouth Archers Open).

A great weekend at the National Junior championships at Lilleshall on July 6/7. On Saturday Theo won the U/14 Barebow section of the FITA Star tournament. Daniel was 3rd in U/12 Barebow and Reuben 6th in U/14 Recurve. On Sunday in the National Championships Theo was 2nd, Daniel 3rd and Reuben 6th. Well done to all of them.




Reuben won the U/15 Recurve section at the All British Field Archery Championships at Pentref in Wales on May 25/26. 

The Club ran a very successful session for 14 members of Bridport Round Table on May 21. We are very grateful for their £200 donation to the club.

The club has been awarded a grant of £1000 from Palmers Brewery. This will allow us to purchase more training bows and arrows and other items to help meet the growing numbers of young archers.

Ben and Reuben competed at the Salisbury FITA on May 19th. Ben achieved a Junior Master Bowman score in his Metric 2 round.

Jenny, William, George and Reuben competed in the Raven Field Tournament near Petersfield in Hampshire on May 12th.


Ben scored 988 for a Bristol 2 round at the Andover Archers Saxon Shoot on April 28th. On the same day George and Daniel competed in the Osprey Triple (Target, Field and Clout) at Weymouth, winning their respective Compound and Barebow sections

Reuben attended a Performance camp at Lilleshall on April 27/28 and received coaching from Lloyd Brown (British Olympic Team Coach), the newArchery GB Korean Coach and some of the Regional Academy Coaches.

Alice and Jess both won their events at the Bowmen of Lytchett Fun Shoot on April 21st.

Archery GB are inviting any junior archers to attend an assessment day at Lilleshall on July 27, as part of the National Talent Development Progrsamme.

A good turnout on April 13th after the Easter break, despite the wet weather forcing us indoors to Litton Hall.



A very successful Village Cafe on Saturday 16th, raising nearly £300 for the club. Well done to everyone who helped and contributed to the event.

Ben, Jenny, William and Reuben competed at the DWAA Indoor Championships at Salisbury on March 3rd. Ben won the County Junior recurve title with 507 for the Double Worcester round. William set a new U/14 County Barebow record with 164 for a single Worcester.


Ben and Jenny both received individual coaching from Lloyd Brown, the British Olympic Team coach at Lilleshall on February 9th. He was very impressed with their ability and shooting technique. Also lots of positive feedback from many of the other performance coaches observing.



Well done to George, Daniel, Reuben, Jenny and Martha who all shot well and won trophies or medals at the Bournemouth Indoor tournament on January 20th. Ben competed at the Mere Archers tournament at Wincanton.

Successful first session at Bridport Leisure Centre on January 19th, with 20 juniors shooting in the Sports Hall. We are planning to use this venue through the winter months.       

Some more great results in Archery GB's November Challenge. First places were achieved by Martha (U/16 Longbow) and Jade (U/12 Longbow), second places by Hannah (U/16 Longbow), Jason (U/16 Longbow) and Reuben (U/12 Recurve, with 58 entries).  



The club has successfully achieved Young People Specialism Status from Archery GB in recognition of the work we do to promote junior archery in the area. We are one of the first clubs in the Country to be awarded this status. We are also actively working towards the Performance specialism and hope to achieve this in the near future.

Reuben won the U/12 Boys Recurve title at the National Junior Indoor Championships at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. Ben also competed, shooting well, but outside the medal places in the U/16 Recurve section. 

The club has received a grant of £1500 from Archery GB's Ontarget Club Development Programme. This will allow to have more indoor training and coaching sessions and strength and conditioning sessions. We can also purchase extra bosses, stands and nets for indoor training.


 We have set up a 12 target field archery course at Litton. We will be entering the Winter Field Archery League, a national postal competition running from October to March. We have White (5-30m), Green (5-15m) and Pink (5-10m) pegs.

'November Challenge' time again. We will be shooting scores for this Archery GB postal tournament this month: 36 arrows at 20 yards on a 60cm face.

We have applied for another grant from the third round of Ontarget funding. This will be largely towards having access to better indoor facilities and the chance to have more sessions for coaching and strength and conditioning training.

The club has applied for Specialist status as both a Performance and Young People Club with Archery GB's Ontarget development programme.


Ben, Jenny and Reuben have all been invited back to Lilleshall National Sports Centre for the second phase of the Archery GB Talent Development Programme. 

Paul attended a training weekend at Lilleshall run by Lloyd Brown, the GB Olympic team coach. 

A very successful 'Have a Go' session at the Big Green Apple Day in Litton on October 6th. Well done to Clive and his excellent assistants Alice, Jess, Jenny and Samantha.


 Congratulations to Jade, William, Daniel, Ben and Reuben who were part of the victorious Dorset and Wilts Junior team which won the GWAS Inter-Counties. The team performed brilliantly to finish just ahead of Gloucestershire, with Somerset third and Devon and Cornwall fourth. Other highlights were Ben winning the Head to Head competition for all the Recurve archers and Jade breaking the National Longbow record for  her round.

 Jade (Longbow), William (Barebow), Daniel (Barebow), Reuben (Recurve) and Ben (Recurve) are in the Dorset and Wilts Junior Team for the GWAS Inter-Counties at Burnham-On-Sea on September 22. 

 Great results in the Archery GB July Nationals Postal Competition. First places for Reuben (U/12 Longbow) and Jade (U/12 Longbow). Second places for Hannah (U/16 Longbow) and Belle (U/14 Barebow). Third places for William B-S (U/10 Barebow) and Jason Larcombe (U/16 Longbow).

 Lots of enthusiastic new archers trying a club session, meaning a record turnout of 29 on September 8th.

 The club is now working towards achieving Archery GB specialist club status for young people and performance.


Jade and Reuben both won titles at the Dorset and Wilts County Champioships at Devizes. Jade scored an excellent 704 for a Bristol 5 round and achieved a 3 Gold End award. Reuben scored 992 for a Bristol 4, for his second Junior Master Bowman  score since changing to recurve.

Reuben shot well at the Exmouth FITA Tournament on August 18th, shooting recurve for the first time in over 2 years!

Very successful first session at Little Bredy on August 11th. Some very challenging shots in the wood and a variety of wildlife including deer, wild boar, snakes and iguanas.


Reuben successfully defended his U/12 Longbow title at the UK Junior Field Championships at Pentref in Wales. He was a member of the England team that finished second to Nothern Ireland in the Home Nations Match.

A great day at the Bournemouth Blue Lion Tournament on July 15th. 12 juniors shot well (9 for the first time in competition) and all won medals. Hannah and Reuben won the Longbow team trophy (the Brian Kimber Arrow) and Jason, Hannah and William B-S set new County records.

Daniel and Reuben both shot well at the English Field Archery Championships in Somerset, Daniel (Barebow) scoring 217 and Reuben (Longbow) 173 for the unmarked round.

Junior National Championships cancelled, so Daniel and Reuben missed out! 

June 30 21 shooting, some in preparation for the National Championships and others for the Bournemouth Blue Lion.

May 20 Well done to Rosie, Olivia, Jade, Joe, Imogen, Reuben, William, Jenny and Ben who shot at the Salisbury FITA in cold, windy conditions.

April 28 Ben shot well at the Pentref Field Tournament. This will be the venue for the UK Junior Field Championships in July.

April 27 Taster session run for Bride Valley Cubs-12 boys had a go and all did well. Some may try Club sessions.

April 21 15 archers survived torrential, freezing hailstone showers!

April 15 10 members competed in the Osprey Triple at Weymouth, shooting at targets, flags and assorted foam animals. A very enjoyable day, and everyone came home with a medal.

April 9 Reuben set a new National Barebow record for the Short Junior National at the Cheltenham Easter Bunny Shoot. He scored 492, beating the previous record of 446, despite shooting in heavy rain and high winds.

March 23 Well done to Ben and Reuben who placed 19th and 25th respectively in The Junior Awards Scheme run by Archery GB, for all junior archers in the UK.

March 4 Seven brave archers battled through atrocious conditions at the Waterside Clout. Torrential rain and high winds meant that everyone got very wet and very cold. The afternoon session was cancelled. Well done to Olivia, Lottie, Jess, Sophie, Imogen, Daniel and Reuben who all shot well and remained positive throughout. Reuben is claiming a National U/12 Compound record for a single 90m Clout and Olivia a County record for U/14 75m Barebow. Jenny competed in the DWAA County Champs at Salisbury, scoring 212 for a Worcester round, shooting Recurve in competition for the first time. 

March 2 Thirteen new foam bosses have been purchased for Field Archery

February The Club has been awarded a grant of £1000 from Archery GB. This will enable us to purchase several 90cm foam bosses to set up Field Archery courses, additional targets and stands for indoor shooting and funding for additional indoor sessions.

January 21 Another record turnout with 26 archers shooting.

January 15 A great day at the Bournemouth Open at Canford School with 12 archers competing, shooting a Portsmouth round. Well done to everyone for shooting so well, but especially to Lizzie, Ophelia, Sophie, Jess, Lottie, Olivia and Rosie competing in their first tournament. Ben, Jenny, Daniel, Jade and Reuben were the others. Lots of trophies and medals won and 5 County records set. Bride Valley 'A' (Ben and Jenny) actually won the Senior Barebow Team competition.

January Club membership has now reached 50!

January Some great results in the November Challenge. William (U/12 Barebow), Reuben (U/12 Longbow) and Ben (U/14 Barebow) won their sections. Jade and Zoe were second and third in U/12 Longbow and Jason was third in U/16 Longbow. 19 club archers entered.


December17 The club has applied to be a 'Community Club' as part of Archery GB's Ontarget development programme.

December 10 Successful end of year Fun Shoot and Social event at Litton Hall, with 25 archers and many parents.

December 3 Reuben and Ben retained their titles at the Junior National Indoor Championships at Telford. Ben was awarded a trophy for Barebow Archer of the Year and Reuben was equal second for Longbow Archer of the Year.

November 27 Ben, Reuben, Daniel and George competed in the British Indoor Barebow Championships. Ben won the U/14 title and Reuben was 2nd in the U/12 event. Daniel was 9th and George in his first competition was 12th.

November 20 Reuben won the Junior Longbow section at the Mere Archers Indoor Shoot.

November 13 Ben won the Junior Barebow title at the GWAS Indoor Championships at Weston-Super-Mare.

November  2011 National Junior (U/18) Target Rankings: Girls Barebow: 1st Jenny, Boys Barebow: 1st Ben, Boys Longbow: 2nd Reuben. Great results!

November 12 A record turnout of 25 juniors on the shooting line! They actually shot 150 arrows per end, which was fitting for the 150th anniversary of GNAS.

November 5 Started shooting scores for the GNAS November Challenge (36 arrows at 20 yards, 60cm face).

October 31 William featured on the Archery GB website with his picture and story of his President's Medal presentation.

October 22 William was presented with a President's Medal, one of 150 created by GNAS for its 150th anniversary. This was awarded in recognition of his hard work and progress this season and also for his determination in overcoming adversity.

October 16 Well done to Jade, Jenny and Ben who all won GWAS Regional Field Archery titles at the Exmouth Field Tournament. Jade set a new U/12 Girls National Longbow record for a FITA 24 Marked round.

October Some great results in the July Nationals (open to all UK clubs for relevant rounds shot in July). First places for Ben, Reuben, Daniel and Jade, second for Jenny and third for William. 

September Club polo shirts are now available with badge on the front and club name on the back. 

September 3 Bride Valley had 4 members of the Dorset and Wilts Junior team for the GWAS Inter-Counties at Burnham-on-Sea. Unfortunately William was unable to compete. However, Jenny, Ben and Reuben all performed well and helped the team finish in second place behind Gloucestershire. Ben and Reuben both won impressive trophies for being the best overall barebow and longbow archers respectively.

August 27/28 Reuben and Ben were members of the England team which finished second to Northern Ireland at the UK Junior Field Championships at Kendal. Individually Reuben won the U/12 Longbow event and the trophy for the highest Longbow score overall and set three National records. Ben finished second in the U/15 Barebow section.

August 28 Great performances at the DWAA Champioships at Devizes, with Jenny winning the U/14 Barebow, Willam the U/12 Barebow and Jade the U/12 Longbow titles.

August Congratulations to Ben on becoming a Junior Master Bowman.

July 17 Some great results at the Bournemouth Blue Lion Tournament- 4 National records and a County record! Congratulations to Ben, Jenny, Jade, Reuben and William on their achievements.

July 10 Reuben won the Metric 4 Longbow at the Wiltshire FITA Star at Swindon. He set a new National record for the 10m distance of 297, beating the previous record of 288.

July 2/3 What a weekend! Great performances at the Junior National Championships at Lilleshall. On Saturday Reuben and Ben won their events at the Junior Fita Star Tournament with scores of 1001 and 1002 respectively. Also Reuben set new National records for 10m (322) and 30m (251) and Ben for 20m (303) and 40m (229). Daniel, in his first National Tournament shot well to finish second behind Reuben.

On Sunday Bride Valley claimed three National titles and second and third places! Reuben won the U/12 Longbow (585), Ben won the U/14 Barebow (851) and Jenny won the U/14 Girls Barebow (761). William and Daniel were second and third in the U/12 Barebow.

June 26 Ben shot well at the Lytchett  Owl Shoot, completing a Western round- his first time shooting at 60 yards.

June C G Fry, the local building firm has made 6 wooden target stands for our new foam bosses.

June 5 Reuben and Ben both set new National records at the Waterside Archers Tournament. Reuben scored 625 for a Short Junior Western, beating his own record by 3 points. Ben scored 700 for a Junior Western, to beat the record set in 1990 by 6 points. This makes it 14 National Records so far this season!

May 29 Ben and Reuben shot well at The Devizes Top Ten Tournament.

May 15 Well done to Ben, Jenny and Reuben who won their events at the Salisbury FITA. Ben set National records for the 40m and 20m distances. 

April 17 Reuben set two National records in one day at the Droitwich Spring Tournament- Short Junior Warwick (Longbow) 244 and Junior Warwick (Barebow) 250.

April 15 We now have 6 new full size foam bosses, thanks to the grant from Ontarget.

April 10 Ben, Oliver, Reuben, Daniel and Ned competed in the Osprey Archers Triple Shoot- target, field and clout on one day!

April 9 Bride Valley went International with Reuben competing in Wales at the Pentref Bowmen Field Shoot.

March 17 Well done to Reuben who came 18th in the 2010 Junior Awards Scheme (JAWS) run by Archery GB for all junior archers.

Ben finished 42nd- a remarkable result as his first ever tournament was in July! 

March 5/6 Well done to Anna, Philippa, Hattie, William, Daniel, Reuben, Oliver, Kyle and Jack who competed in the Waterside Archers Clout events.

We are hoping to claim several national records (and additional county records). Also Ben shot well at the DWAA Indoor Championships in Salisbury.

February 23 Good news! The Club has received a grant of £500 from the Archery GB 'Ontarget' programme to buy new full size foam targets and stands.

The Club have entered scores for Ben, Reuben and Jenny in the Ilves Cup, an international tournament run by an Estonian Club, with clubs from 15 countries taking part. Results can be found on

U/12 Team: 1st. There are 18 Junior teams from the South West (Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire).



On December 11th there was a Christmas Fun Shoot and Presentation Day in the Hall. 15 archers enjoyed a variety of fun challenges and nice food. The Rat didn't enjoy it so much.

 December 4 Congratulations to Ben (U/14 Barebow) and Reuben (U/12 Longbow) who won titles at the Junior National Indoor Championships at Telford.

 November 28 Congratulations to Ben and Reuben on winning National Indoor Barebow Championship titles and to Jenny who came second.

 November 20 Results received for October round of GWAS Postal League. Ben, Reuben and Daniel leading their categories and the U/12 team in first place.

 November 18 The Club registered for 'OnTarget' , a new Archery GB scheme. Clubs will have the opportunity to specialise in three areas- Community, Young People and Performance. It may be possible for us to specialise in all three areas. 

 November 5 Recording scores for the Archery GB November Challenge and GWAS postal league (36 arrows at 20yards on a 60cm face).

 October 31 Well done to Jenny and William who competed in their first Field Archery event at the Stourhead West Autumn Tournament, shooting alongside many National Champion archers.

 October 17 Well done to Ben and Reuben on winning titles at the GWAS Regional Field Archery Championships at Exmouth. This was our first trip to Devon after numerous visits to Somerset, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Shropshire!


 The club is entering the Grand Western Archery Society Winter Postal League. We send in scores shot each month from October to March. Archers aged 10 and over shoot 36 arrows at 20 yards on a 60cm target face and Under 10's shoot at 10 yards.


 Jenny and Reuben were part of the successful Dorset and Wilts team at the GWAS Junior Inter-Counties, who won the event ahead of Devon and Cornwall, Gloucestershire and Somerset. The duo won the trophy for the best combined barebow and longbow pair. Jenny also won the best barebow trophy and set yet another National record for the Bristol V.


Bride Valley had some great results in the July 'Nationals', a National postal competition with clubs around the country sending in scores achieved in July. The highlights were: Ben Eve 1st U/12 Boys barebow, Jenny 1st and Philippa 3rd in U/12 Girls barebow, Reuben 1st and William 2nd in U/10 Boys longbow and Anna 3rd in U/10 Girls barebow.


Congratulations to Jenny, Ben and William on winning Dorset and Wilts County titles at Devizes. Jenny won the Bristol V Barebow with a new National record score of 1004. Ben won the Bristol IV Barebow with another National record score of 1037. William won the Bristol IV Longbow with a new County record score.


Reuben won the Short Junior Western Longbow (and best Longbow gold) at Sway Bowmen's Mushroom Shoot. Reuben and his Dad won the Longbow/barebow team title.


Well done to 11 archers who completed 'July National' rounds. These scores have been now been sent to Archery GB for this annual competition.


A successful day at Bournemouth Blue Lion Tournament on July 18th. Ben Eve won the U/12 Barebow, Reuben won U/12 Longbow, Ben Ward won U/14 Recurve (and best recurve gold prize) and Oliver was 2nd in U/12 Recurve.


Congratulations to Ben who won the Wiltshire FITA Star Metric 4 and set a new National record for 36 arrows at 10m (beating Reuben's record set one week earlier!).


Congratulations to Jenny and Reuben who both claimed National Barebow titles at the National Junior Championships at Lilleshall.

Reuben also won the Metric 4 event at the FITA Star tournament at Lilleshall and set two national records at 30m and 10m in the process.


On June 6th Reuben, William and Jenny competed in the Waterside Archers Western Tournament in Hampshire. Jenny and Reuben both set new National Barebow records  of 637 and 622 points respectively in the Short Junior Western. Along with William Bride Valley finished 3rd in the Junior Team competition.


On May 30th Reuben, William and Jenny competed in the Devizes Top Ten Tournament. Jenny won the Bristol V Barebow section, setting a new national record of 996 points. Reuben came 2nd in the Bristol IV with 721 and William 3rd with 530.  


On May 16th Reuben , William and Jenny competed in the Salisbury Fita. Jenny won the Metric 5 Barebow section with an excellent score of 1026. Reuben and William came second and third respectively in the Metric 4 Recurve section.


 In March Reuben, William and Jack finished as the top three in the junior barebow event at the Waterside Archers Metric Clout. Reuben's score of 140 was a new County record.


In April Reuben and Jack competed in a Triple Shoot at Osprey Archers in Weymouth, which comprised target, field and clout events. Jack won the junior barebow event, while Reuben won the recurve section and set another county record in the clout.


On May 9th six club members took part in the Bowmen of Lytchett Open Shoot. The boys were very successful with Reuben finishing first, William second, Oliver third, Wilf fourth and Ben sixth in the Short Junior National Round. However, the highlight was Jenny winning the Junior Barebow event and eclipsing the under-13 national record.
